Star Trek: Strange New Worlds — “Like Chronitons Through the Hourglass” (S04E07) Review
Strange New Worlds turns the Enterprise into a daytime soap opera, complete with melodramatic revelations, dramatic pauses, and Trelane pulling the strings. There is a genuinely moving story about Pike, Batel, and the daughter he lost buried underneath it all. Unfortunately, it takes far too long to reach it.

Star Trek: The Last Starship, Vol. 1 Review — A Future Paid For in Lost Time
The Last Starship takes the Burn, the collapse of the Federation, the Jurati Borg, the birth of the Emerald Chain, and even the resurrection of James T. Kirk, then tries to make them part of one coherent future. Its ambition is impressive, but the book is at its best when all that machinery falls away and we simply watch Wowie Carter lose years with the family he left behind.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds — “A Case of Chiaroscuro” (S04E04) Review
Strange New Worlds embraces film noir in “A Case of Chiaroscuro”, giving Una, M’Benga, and Uhura a strong story about occupation, resistance, and the difference between following Starfleet regulations and doing what feels morally right. The result is visually impressive and often thoughtful, even if a weak Enterprise subplot and one enormous doppelgänger coincidence stop it reaching its full potential.
